Van Wastell Ny Times Article.

Like many of you know, Van Wastell passed away recently. I came across a thread on a forum i post on with a link to an article Ny Times wrote up on him that was really good. Here's the link to check it out and a little exerpt of it..

"By name alone, he seemed bound for stardom — Van Wastell, born into a renowned snowboarding family, called by the moniker of a storied skateboarding brand.

Before his 20th birthday, Wastell was hurtling toward that destiny on urethane wheels. Touring the country with an incandescent crew of trundling acrobats, he set himself apart with deft athleticism, prodigious creativity and a devil-may-care public image. By his early 20s, he had earned the laurel of full arrival, a signature board produced by a major skating gear company.

“I was and always will be a huge fan of Van’s skating,” the blogger Dan Watson wrote on Youwillsoon, a skateboarding site. Wastell had “amazing style and originality that was a breath of fresh air in a world of cookie-cutter robot kids.”

But when his body was found last month in the alley behind a hotel in Berlin, apparently the victim of a fall, Wastell, 24, became the subject of intrigue.

Through public appearances and staged film shorts, he had cultivated a reputation for drinking heavily on tour. In death, he has drawn unwelcome attention to a largely unspoken aspect of his sport. At the professional level, many skateboarders answer to the demands of elite athleticism while carrying on with wild abandon, to the approval of a mostly young male audience.

As the German authorities have pursued their investigation, skaters around the world have turned to online forums to mourn, mythologize, speculate and rant. Wastell’s main sponsor, Krooked Skateboarding, has forged ahead in promoting his signature board.

Representatives for Krooked and its copyright owner, Mark Gonzales, a professional skateboarder and artist, did not respond to calls and e-mail messages. A representative of its parent company, S. F. Deluxe Productions of San Francisco, declined to comment, as did the Wastell family.

One of Wastell’s brothers, Eddie Villa, wrote on his Web site, “Van touched people all around the world, and surprised me when kids from all over the world would tell me how sick of a skater he was and how cool he was for showing people that you can put on a Matix flannel and skate and be completely respected.”

Converse Skateboarding.

Guess who joined the skateboard show world? Converse. It seems as if every big time shoe brand has finally completed into all of them. Although, i kind of like some of these shoes. Plus, the team is pretty awesome. Anthony Pappalardo, Ethan Fowler, Sammy Baca, Raymond Molinar, and my personal favorite Nick Trapasso. My only complaint is how similar some of the designs are to many other popular shoes, but hey everyone copies them. Here's a few of there shoes out right now.

Alien Workshop Release Date!

A set premier date is finally arranged for the new Alien Workshop video, "Mindfield". So far its set for February 6th, 2009. Here's some promos for it to give you a taste of what is in store.

Rob Dyrdek's new Mtv show to air in 09"

"Fantasy Factory" is the name of the new show replacing Rob & Big early next year on Mtv. Here is the description from the Alien Workshop website...

"Rob’s new show will air in early 2009 and revolves around his appropriately named “Fantasy Factory.” The Factory is complete with an amazing indoor skate plaza, foam pit, basketball set up, garage for his 3 wheeled car, pet living quarters and much, much more. Stay tuned for more info regarding the show"

From the photos i have come across so far, this looks very very promising. Loads more of absolutely ridiculous things and hopefully more skating than Rob & Big. Here's some photos i dug up of the place.

A new Nike Sb shoe that i think might appeal to many more people than usual. Stephan Janoski's pro shoe coming out early 2009, hopefully atleast. So simple yet one of my favorite so far, let's hope they come sooner rather than later.

Plan B "Superfuture" Promo

Here is a little segment of the new Plan B video. For the full 14 minute version and much better quality go to PlanBskateboards.com. I HIGHLY recommend going over to the website and checking the whole thing. Regardless on my feelings on Plan B being a total skateboard boy band super group, i can't deny that this promo is filled with outrageous footage. Video does not come out until 2010, but i am sure we'll be getting these almost 15 minute promos all along the way to make up for it. I'm not going to spoil to much of it before you watch it, but Danny Way kickflip into the mega ramp vert ramp?! 360 flip manual a MEGA RAMP MANUAL PAD?! WHAT THE FUCK. Once again, I don't care if you kickflip over the state of texas, Fuck you Ryan Sheckler.

Thursday Pick.

First and foremost video of the blog. Today's pick is Brad Cromer's new Krooked part. Dudes bangin' out video parts left and right. It seems like each part is better and different than his last.
